Amy Gordanier is an assistant professor of East Asian History at the College of Charleston. She did her PhD research at the University of California, Los Angeles, and specializes in the social and cultural history of China during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Her research interests include the history of Chinese opera and other performing arts, gender and the family, social and professional networks, legal history, and migration and travel. She is currently working on a book project about itinerant opera performers in the ever-more interconnected and mobile society of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century China.
