Wei-ti Chen is a social and cultural historian of modern Japan, with a specific focus on empire, medicine, migration, and transnational history. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2016. Before joining the College of Charleston, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and an instructor at Northern Arizona University.
She is currently at work on a book project entitled Cosmopolitan Medicine Nationalized: the Making of Japanese State-Empire and Overseas Physicians in a Global World, which explores how Imperial Japan (1868-1945)  protected and defined its medical borders by regulating the transnational migration of physicians.
