Gao Bei
Assistant Professor
A native of Beijing, Professor Gao received B.A. and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Kitakyushu in Japan before earning her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 2007. She is completing her book, tentatively titled China, Japan, and the Flight of European Jewish Refugees to Shanghai, 1938-1945. Forthcoming from Oxford University Press, it is the first major study to examine the policies of the Chinese Nationalist government and Japanese occupation authorities towards the Jewish refugee issue.

Professor Gao’s research and teaching interests include the politics and society of modern China, the history of international relations in East Asia, and China’s relationship to the wider world.
